Hello,
We are Antarctica Class. This is where your journey at Pontesbury CE Primary School begins.
When you know that you are joining us, one of our staff usually contacts and visits your current setting (be that childminder, nursery, home etc). We hold three transition sessions in the summer term before you start at school. The first is for 1 hour to help you get used to somewhere new. The second is usually slightly longer and we invite grown ups in to discuss what the EYFS/Reception year has in stall and how you can help prepare for this at home. The third session is for most of the morning until after lunch.
The first few weeks in Reception are all about routine, getting used to the school, us getting to know you and you us and exploring our classroom environment. During the first 6 weeks, the children will complete the statutory DfE Reception Baseline Assessment – which is nothing to worry about and will be completed with a member of our Reception staff.
During your time in Reception, we will utilise learning through play, child initiated and adult-led learning. Children will begin reading in the very first few weeks of joining us. We hope you will soon see how our phonics knowledge is building into supporting this. We also love going out to our woodland area and we will learn PE twice a week. Our children often work individually or in small groups to learn key building blocks for future education and life.
Staff in our classroom are:
Mrs Moxon (class teacher), Mrs Keyland and Mrs Butler (class TAs).
