Football and Tag Rugby

Well done to our Girls’ Year 5/6 football team who came second in today’s local schools tournament. The girls played really well together and scored plenty of goals. They should all be very proud of their performance.

Also, well done to our Tag Rugby team who played last week in the School Games qualifiers. This is the first year we have played the new style of tag rugby and the team did very well in their group games.

A ‘thank you’ to the WI

Thank you to Pontesbury WI who have raised £1000 for our school to help buy some new music equipment.

Science Fair 2026

A huge congratulations to all the people who took part in this year’s Science Fair. We had a range of experiments from magnets, to lava lamps, exploding coke and electricity. Thank you to the children and let’s not forget the adults too, who probably spent many an hour helping make the models and resourcing the experiments as well.

Looking at some of the photos, it is clear to see the enjoyment people get from a little bit of science magic!

Meadow Project

Thank you to the Parish Council, the Pontesbury Climate Emergency Action Group and our families for this morning’s workshop. The children enjoyed planting plugs and seeds ready for planting in the selected meadow area later in the spring.

Winning House Celebration

Donaldson’s house treat was a Winter Olympic Special!

The children enjoyed speed skating, curling and doing a bobsleigh run.

John Croxton – Local Author Visit

John Croxton, a local author, visited Years 4, 5 and 6 today and shared his recently published books. John was very entertaining and engaging and the children listened intently to different extracts.

John will be in next week to sign these for the children.

The two books available are Little Bess and The Smaugsons.

A visit from Rashmika

To finish of our unit on Hinduism in RE, we had a lovely visit from Rashmika. She told us all about her way of life and how her Hindu religion guides her. She told us about things that were important to her and her religion. She explained the Puja tray and how she uses this for worship in her home. We made our own Puja trays and some of us volunteered to try on a sari and traditional boys clothing for special occasions.

MG Leonard

We really enjoyed our visit from Maya Leonard and hopefully the children. It was really interesting to hear a little bit about her, where she gets her ideas from and the themes and characters in her new books. It was also lovely to see some former pupils from Mary Webb who also joined us for the event.

Local artist visit

We had a very special visitor in Year 6: Lyn Evans, the local artist we studied last term, came to visit us and look at our art work. She was very impressed with our work and spent time answering lots of wonderful questions from the children. She even signed a few autographs as the children felt like they were meeting a celebrity!
