Pontesbury CE Primary School Curriculum
We believe in providing an ‘irresistible’ curriculum with a fantastic range of opportunities which engage, enrich and excite our children.
We have created a knowledge-rich curriculum brimming with genuine cross-curricular links and first-hand experiences specifically designed to fit within the context and locality of our school. We ensure that our curriculum meets the requirements of the National Curriculum.
Whilst building our curriculum, we were guided by the Church of England’s vision to educate for ‘life in all its fullness.’ We carefully crafted schemes of work for our school context and needs of the pupils for others. We have selected the Key Knowledge that we believe is crucial, engaging and that which develops inquisitive learners.
We have developed Key Concepts that run as a ‘theme’ throughout our subjects and are revisited throughout the curriculum. E.g. Chronology in History or Evaluation in Design and Technology.
We have also decided what skills are needed for each subject to provide children with the basic building blocks and give them the opportunity to be a Geographer, Musician etc. These will develop across our curriculum building a comprehensive set of skills throughout a child’s time with us.
High expectations and levels of challenge are present in all that we do, engendering an intrinsic sense of personal pride in achievement amongst our children.
Through our vision and values, there is a focus on developing children’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding, as well as developing personal attributes such as respect, resilience, curiosity and ambition. We aim for our children to be compassionate citizens in the world around them and ultimately live happy and successful lives, making a positive contribution to their society, to be well prepared for life beyond school.
Our curriculum is underpinned by the Church of England’s vision for children to have ‘Life in all its fullness,’ our values and our school vision to ‘Aim High and Climb Higher.’
